SATUG 2013 Report

Every year before the start of the conference I suffer from a serious attack of anxiety and stress only to look back at the event and think to myself "why?, we have a dedicated and committed group of board members, vendors, delegates and competent professionals looking after our event and dealing with every desire and need".

To all involved once again I would like to extend a word of gratitude from myself and the board to each and everyone who contributed to make this event the resounding success that it was. "THANK YOU ALL!".

2013_image001.jpgRegistrations at the hotel were quick and efficient with pre-registrations arranged for Vendor Delegates who arrived on Sunday already. This helped tremendously to keep things chugging along nicely. "Well done Elaine and her team at the Hotel".

We started off on Sunday night with our Vendor Dinner sponsored by SATUG at the High Stakes Restaurant in the casino complex. The food was to say the least "awesome" and of extremely high quality. Staff were friendly and helpful and eager to assist with a very difficult event with additional tables being added continuously to accommodate people as the group grew in size.

On Monday 22 April we started off with breakfast and registration and once again all was streamlined with all the hard work of making up of giveaway packs completed on the Sunday afternoon. Thanks to all board members and even vendor delegates that pitched in to get this done.

2013_image002.jpgAll sessions were well attended and I am sure that all speakers would be well appreciative of the high interest that was generated by their presentations.  From what I could see it generated a lot of interaction from all attendees during and after the formal presentation sessions.

Monday presentations were appropriately ended with the Vendor Bash in the Animal Sanctuary which was preceded with a short game drive to bring attendees to the venue stocked with good food and drinks. This was set out under the stars and trees with a big bon fire lit to curb the cold autumn air from chasing us all back indoors. Entertainment was delivered by a young and upcoming Afrikaans Artist Conrad Cronje soon releasing his own album.

2013_image006.jpgTuesday once again started with breakfast and registration and a wealth of presentations by vendors leading up to a riveting session by Braam Malherbe adventurer, extreme athlete and honorary game ranger as well as ambassador to many charity organisation but more specifically The Smile Foundation assisting children in need of urgent medical procedures to rectify cleft pallets etc. This brought me to tears and certainly affected every one of the audience in many more ways than one.

The day was ended off by a boat trip along the Vaal River with food and drinks and a frenzy of participation and eagerness of most attendees to join in a jamming session with myself and Maryank Bajpai from HP who had two guitars along. To summarize we were astounded by the talents and singing voices that was displayed by many of the attendees other than just being computer experts.
As usual the conference was ended with a well attended and appreciated FREE training day courtesy from HP dealing with CLIMs and all the peculiarities surrounding the setup and capabilities of this type of infrastructure presented by Vince Cooper from HP.

2013_image010.jpgWe appreciate the fact that the Connect Community was represented at the conference by Kristina Elizondo and are looking forward to future collaboration with this organization.

2013_image011.jpgAs outgoing Chairman of the Board I wish to congratulate Brett Dismore from BCX with his new title and role and wish you and the rest of the board all the success going forward. For the next two years as past Chairman l will still be involved with the SATUG board and pledge my full support for everything that you endeavour to do.
